Life in the Spirit
About a decade ago, there started to be widespread concern about character and integrity in leadership. These concerns intensified in 2023, with over 70% of Americans reporting a leadership crisis across government and business. But, it’s not just leadership. There are also increasing worries about a lack of integrity and trust in US society in general. Goodness seems to be on the wane. In an uncertain and complex world, the vacuum created by this crisis has been filled by a desire for power, and ‘winning’ our cultural battles. But, the gospel is not just about power, but the power of good. Paul writes in Romans that the gospel is the power of God for salvation. Salvation is God’s great work of goodness in the world, reconciling people to himself, changing them to become people committed to living good lives, and bringing about a redeemed ‘good’ world through the power of the Spirit. Galatians 5, shows us: The importance of goodness The shape of goodness The power to become good
